Sleeping on the job

I lack much motivation these last few days. Perhaps it is the weather, or lack of sleep,or the depressing sight of endless laundry and dust on the furniture or even on my washer and dryer as you can see in the picture. It can be frustrating to say "aahhh, all done and all caught up" one day and then turn around to find the boys have happily cleaned their rooms and found another load of laundry for me! Or dusting...really....it is sooo overrated! I live in Alberta with dusty roads and on the farm t'boot so if you feel so inclined to write your name in my furniture why not ask for a doekie to start dusting for me? I also detest ironing. Pointless, the roosters in this house wear it and throw it on the ground anyway. I must confess if i do find a really wrinkly shirt in the dryer by mistake, i will re-wash it. Yupp.... you read it hear folks i wash sunday shirt sometimes 2 or 3 times a week. Just till i remeber to dry it for 10-20 minutes then hang it so not to have to iron it. I have started to teach my daughter the basics of laundry. How to sort it, what soap for what load and how to remove her poopy stains. Also to make sure she is not too overwhelmed by this tacky task i assure her any money or treasures she finds in jean pockets is hers to keep. My greatest treasure i found was a $20 bill in Tim's jeans. Poor sucker! Occasional hockey cards, quarters and candies also appear but the paper money is always welcome and never returned.
Maybe that's a note you want to make as a reader if you ever visit our home!
So as the bible reads we ahem, older women in Titus 2:3-5 need to be examples to the younger ones. I've decided to teach Rachel good things, like being a good homemaker, but by looking a the above picture this was her reaction to it. Hmmm, maybe vacuum training will go better.
On a side note, could whomever reads this blog just make a little comment like "what your least favorite job around the house is" this way i know how many people really follow this blog so far? Thanks, have a great weekend.

  1. Well let's see, I don't have too much stuff to do (well sometimes I do but not always). I detest vacuuming...who cares if there is a couple dust-bunnies here and there? (they make great house pets...really they do, except for those allergic to house dust that is) My favourite chore however, is cleaning the toilet (not even kidding). It's very satisfiying to plunk your back-side on a shiny clean thone! I don't generally pick up after myself very well, "because Mom, I will just end up throwing the same junk in the corner again and if I clean THAT up, I'll never be able to find it again!"

  2. I hate dishes and have to admit my husband does them as much or more than I do!

  3. I really don't like dusting either. To me it seems pointless. I can still write my name in it and that's when I am finished. By the way, the little hen in the picture is so adorable. What a little princess. I am sure she will grow to be a great mommy like her mommy. I still aspire to be like you, Inge when it comes to how hard you work. Keep up the good work....love Bernita

  4. Well.. I personally find that the longer you live at home the less years you have to be completly responsible for the housework!! works lovely for me. but if I had to pick what is worse. .I am with you for the ironing!!!. .once you sit down in church it gets wrinkled anyway!!

  5. What a joy to read your blog, Inge. As i said before, you should write a book together with your sister, and tell the world how life really is. Anyway, my least favorite chore is for sure the laundry. Just walking into the laundry room is a chore itself. I am greatful for my washer and dryer, they do a good job, but once they are done, my job starts. I don't like folding, so everything that i think is good for ironing goes into a different basket, just to find it again a week later, when I absolutely have no other choice than to iron, because my kids are running out of shirts to wear. If i would just get myself to fold it right away when the dryer is done, my workload would be cut in half. But no, we keep doing it the opposite way, and create more work for ourselves. Once you're done with the ironing and folding, then you have to put the whole mess away in the closets, just to find it in the laundry basket the next day. And yes, boys are bad for hiding dirty laundry, but so are girls. So Inge, teach little Rachel well. Other then that I do not like cleaning the house, but some thing just have to be done. It's part of life. I like the looks and feeling of a clean house, so that is the reward. Have a blessed week everybody.

  6. Ironing...I don't ironing. I like to buy the wrinkle free Sunday Shirts for Darryl. Yes, I own an iron and an ironing board. I just don't like it. It's time consuming and at times seems pointless to me because he himself doesn't hang up the item. There I admitted it. Now, don't judge me when you see Darryl's shirt on Sunday! ;-)

  7. Sorting and resorting clothes. Tidying up the mess after the 2 oldest have put their laundry away. And of course, putting away the winter stuff and exchanging it with the summer stuff. GROAN. If you show off that laundry is REALLY fun, perhaps Rachel will beg you to take over. Linday folds for me now...so does Eric.

  9. Hi, just found my way here from Steph's blog. Generally speaking I can't really say I like one chore over the other. I just don't have time to do much of any of them. You know the saying, "doing the housework while childern are growing is like shovelling the sidewalk while it's still snowing?" So, I figure, putter away at the necessaries (like the bathroom before it grows stuff and walks away and the laundry before kids (or parents) are running about stark naked) and leave unimportant things like making beds, dusting and vaccumming for the moments when I'm bored or grossed out. No doubt about it, grossed out always comes before bored. :)
May God give you strength for each moment that little one is crying. It's draining, exhausting and overwhelming at times, isn't it?
    Blessings! Leanne Overduin

  10. Just came across your blog. I would have to say ironing. Well, I don't really ever iron. I do a test at the store and wring the clothes before I even buy them.
